The Team

As a solitary filmmaker some things are a challenge, and this is where the army of wonderful helpers step in to ensure the film is the best it can be.

Helen and mushroom

Sure this is a one woman project, but it couldn’t happen without, sometimes small but always invaluable assistance. So some of the people who are helping to make the film possible will be acknowledged here, to give you a glimpse of the ‘behind the scenes’ process.

First is Helen Davies, my wonderful mother. She came out on an earlier shoot to run my first and potentially most important interviews – she asked the questions while I messed with the camera. She is also responsible for all the ‘behind the scenes’ stills of me in the field, thanks!

Rodney and the dog

Then there’s Rodney August. An adventurer in his own right, Rodney offered to help out with a recent shoot braving frost and early mornings (very brave, it was pretty cold). While it’s possible to film an interview on your own (ie man the camera and ask the questions) it’s far from ideal so this is where I need the most help, Rodney ran interview camera for me.

The latest edition of the team joined me on my last trip out to a warmer landscape, the winter seemed more gentle but cloudy skies blocked out the sunrise (a challenge when you’re trying to film in) but despite the challenges the lovely Laura Honey (another first year from my course) took the opportunity to get out of town and helped out with an interview and rewarding visit with the Twizel Area School. She also took a few great ‘behind the scenes’ shots on one of the more beautiful shoots i’ve been on.

And many more yet unknown – so, like they say on TV, stay tuned.
